In Poland, the number of daily new infections with the coronavirus has exceeded the 24,000 mark for the first time. Within 24 hours, 24,692 new cases were added, most of them (around 3,952) in the Wielkopolska region in the west of the country, the Polish Ministry of Health announced today.
In the same period, 373 people died in connection with the virus – more than ever before. The previous record of 21,897 cases was only reached on Saturday. Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 6,475 deaths in Poland in connection with CoV disease. The country has about 38 million inhabitants.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wants to inform soon about further steps in the fight against the spread of the virus.
Record figures in Russia
Meanwhile, Russia reported a peak with almost 19,800 confirmed new infections within 24 hours. The number of cases of infection in the country with a population of 144.5 million rose by 19,768 to over 1.69 million, as it was officially reported. In Moscow alone, more than 5,800 cases were added. The authorities record 389 additional deaths, the total number now stands at 29,217.
